Console War

The console war is something that’s been going on for a while, about 20 years to be exact. It’s been mostly between PlayStation and Xbox, but Nintendo has recently gotten in on it with the release of the Nintendo Switch back in 2017. I’m not here to tell you the winner of the

console war, but here’s all the info about all three sides you’ll need to know.

Playstation’s first console, the Playstation 1 released in December of 1994, nearly seven years before Xbox. Microsoft debuted their console, the Xbox, in November of 2001, along with the first installment of Halo. PlayStation didn’t release with any big-name games, or they aren’t big anymore at least.

PlayStation released their second console, the PS2, in 2000. Xbox didn’t release their second console until 2005, which was the Xbox 360. The next year, PlayStation released the PS3. Nintendo came out with the Wii the same year, which was vastly different from the Xbox and PlayStation. While it was a huge hit, Xbox and Playstation were still dominating. Here’s where the console war took off.

Both coming out in November 2013, The PlayStation 4 and Xbox 1 are released. Incredible power, technology, and games come with these consoles. This is when people choose their sides. Four years later, after the flop of the WiiU in 2012, Nintendo releases the Switch. The Switch is a huge success, and now we’re seeing games from Xbox and Playstation on a Nintendo console for the first time on top of the Nintendo exclusives. You can now have Call Of Duty, Mortal Kombat, and Super Mario Bros all on the same handheld device, which also easily connects to your television. This is huge for the console war. With the switch being cheaper and also being portable, it takes over the gaming community.

Seven years later, we finally see the new generation of consoles. The Xbox Series X and the Playstation 5, are even more powerful than before. These consoles are sold out everywhere, the graphics are looking insane, it’s a huge step for console gaming. Nintendo is still hanging on with the Switch, which is losing vastly to the consoles.

So there you have it. That’s the console war for you, and that’s excluding things like Atari and all of Nintendo’s earlier consoles. Which side of the console war are you on?
