Is PrettyLitter safe?

Since health is our top priority, PrettyLitter was developed by a team of veterinarians and scientists specifically for cats and is household friendly. PrettyLitter is made of super absorbent Silica Gel, combined with a proprietary formulation of indicators to help you monitor your cat's urine for acidity and alkalinity levels outside the average range, plus the visible presence of blood. Silica gels are inert, clear crystals made from naturally occurring minerals. The litter is not absorbed by the bowel and does not swell in the presence of humidity.

PrettyLitter uses naturally occurring minerals that are safe for cats, even when they breathe or ingest it. Of course, ingesting a lot of any type of litter is not great, so keep an eye on your cat if they love to munch on litter. Another perk: if you or your cat have asthma or a similar condition, you’ll appreciate the lack of dust in crystal litter.

How effective is PrettyLitter at odor control?

Our super absorbent silica gel eliminates smells by trapping urine inside (not clumping around it) and drying out feces. By drying out your cat’s waste, PrettyLitter is obliterating odors even before you have a chance to scoop.

Can PrettyLitter be used for multi-cat households?

         Absolutely! Multi-cat households love PrettyLitter.

But, what about health monitoring, you ask? If your cats share a litter box and you notice a color change, PrettyLitter recommends having an extra box and extra bags of PrettyLitter on hand so you can isolate their bathrooms and see which cat may be having an issue.

How long does a bag of PrettyLitter last?

Each bag of PrettyLitter is designed to last an entire month for one medium sized cat in an average sized litter box (12" x 16"). After you pour your PrettyLitter into your litter box, use the ruler card in the bag to make sure you are getting the proper 2" of depth. How is PrettyLitter different from other cat litters?

PrettyLitter is made of super absorbent, lightweight silica gel. Silica gel crystals are extremely absorbent, more so than other litter types, so you need less litter to do the same job.

Our long-lasting, non-clumping litter means lighter trash bags, less scooping and less trips to the store. On the other hand, traditional clumping litters turn urine into large (heavy) clumps that need to be scooped out and replaced throughout the month. The super dry silica gels in PrettyLitter absorb the urine and odor, trapping it inside as the water in the urine evaporates out. The solid waste is all you need to scoop and dispose of.

Does PrettyLitter clump?

The original unscented PrettyLitter is a non-clumping litter. The super dry silica gels absorb the urine and odor, trapping it inside as the water in the urine evaporates out. The solid excrement is the only waste you need to scoop and dispose of. Just throw it away like you normally would and replace all of the litter every month.

Will PrettyLitter work in my self-cleaning, automated litter box?

Yes. PrettyLitter's sand-like texture works great with many automated self-cleaning litter boxes. If your litter box already works well with other crystal litters it will work great with PrettyLitter.

Does it work with Litter-Robot?

We have members that use Litter Robot. Most of them set the cycle wait time to 7-15 minutes.

Does it test Diabetes?

PrettyLitter tests for low acidity, high alkalinity and the detection of blood and does not test for diabetes. However, ancillary medical issues are sometimes prevalent so PrettyLitter may still be very useful to keep tabs on other potential issues that may arise.

Is Prettylitter diagnostic?

We always want to emphasize that PrettyLitter is a tool that provides insights into your cat’s health, and not a medical diagnostic product. Only a licensed Veterinarian can diagnose a medical condition. If you notice a color change, continue to monitor your cat's litter for 24 to 48 hours. If the color change persists, we'd recommend taking your cat to your local Veterinarian.

Can I mix PrettyLitter with other litters?

The silica gel crystals of PrettyLitter were carefully designed to be health monitoring and mixing with other litter may affect the color results.

Is the bag of PrettyLitter biodegradable? 

No. Our bag is non-biodegradable. But we understand your concern and we love knowing about what is important to you as a consumer and we hope to continue to innovate with future products.

Can we recycle the packaging bag of PrettyLitter?

We try to reduce our carbon footprint by making PrettyLitter take up less space in landfills. At this time, our bag is not recyclable, but we understand your concern and will keep that in mind for the future.

Where is PrettyLitter manufactured? 

All silica gel litter is manufactured outside of the United States. We wanted to partner with a factory that produces the highest quality litter and that factory is located in China. 

China! Why? I don’t buy things from China, you know. 

For what it is worth, many other trusted brands partner with our manufacturer. That being said, we understand you have many choices as a consumer and respect your viewpoint.

Why do you say it contributes less space in landfills? 

PrettyLitter is a non-clumping litter and doesn’t need to be replenished most of the time. We recommend scooping and mixing daily, and replacing the box about once a month per cat. Since you aren't scooping away as much, you should be able to use less over time, which means less litter ends up in landfills.

Can I add Baking SODA/ Deodorizer?

Mixing PrettyLitter with Baking soda/Deodorizer would likely give inaccurate color results.

Can PrettyLitter mask the smell of the poop?

PrettyLitter doesn't have any special odor technology for poop, but we have found that in most cases PrettyLitter's odor absorbing silica gels will help absorb moisture and odors from poop as well as urine, talk about an added bonus! 

Why did the poop turn blue?

The feces are not a good test for the health of the cat. Please monitor the urine spots only for the color changes into the orange, blue or dark green or red spectrum. The feces acidity is driven by the food while the urine acidity or alkalinity is driven more by the blood filtration of the kidneys.

Can I burn the PrettyLitter crystals?

Due to the nature of this product, we don't recommend burning PrettyLitter but if it does happen to get thrown in with other trash that gets burned we recommend not inhaling any fumes that are a result of burning, as with any other substance.

What is PrettyLitter’s pH level?

We do not disclose our proprietary formulation. However, the color indicators measure the alkalinity and acidity in your cat’s urine.

Did you change your formula?

Long time customers usually ask this question. If they do, ask probing questions to know their concerns and determine what resolution to offer.  You can say, ”We have not changed our formula, but we'd love to collect the lot code located at the top of the bag for record keeping purposes.”

If you're asking about Prettylitter as long as it didn't get wet or have moisture in it, It should be okay to use. 

 Is PrettyLitter scented?  

Our PrettyLitter non-clumping litter has 2 types, scented and the unscented one PrettyLitter.

Is PrettyLitter flushable?

Safe for septic tanks? We don't recommend you flush PrettyLitter, because of feline feces. Feline feces may contain toxoplasmosis which is a parasite that can be very harmful to marine life.  If you live in a city near water it's worth your consideration. It's the feline feces that can be harmful, not the litter itself. Regarding the litter itself, if you use a septic tank rather than a city plumping system then it depends on your tank.  If other litters worked in the past when you flushed it into your septic tank then PrettyLitter will work great as well.

Is PrettyLitter hypoallergenic? 

PrettyLitter does not contain propylene glycol. While our formula is low dust, which many customers find to be helpful, we do not claim our litter to be hypoallergenic. That being said, we are committed to your happiness. If you encounter any issues, let us know.

Is PrettyLitter organic?

 We do not claim to be organic.

Is PrettyLitter Gluten Free?

Our product is manufactured in a facility that exclusively makes silica gel litter, so we can be certain PrettyLitter doesn't come in contact with any gluten during the manufacturing process. 

Is PrettyLitter Vegan?

PrettyLitter along with most cat litter aren’t made of any animal by products.

Was PrettyLitter tested on animals?

PrettyLitter was developed by a team of Veterinarians in a pet products research laboratory and was not tested on animals.  We sent PrettyLitter to Veterinarians to test on their patients and we were sent back their test results. We tested for a number of factors to confirm the accuracy of the health indicator sensitivity as to avoid false positives or negatives, plus strength of color change.
