The Senior Phase marks the final stages of a young person’s academic journey at school and is the time when young people should be adding to their portfolio of qualifications and achievements over the 3-year period.
Students moving into S4 are encouraged to continue with 7 of the 9 subjects they studied in S3, as part of the BGE, to ensure they maximise opportunities for attainment in S4. For most young people, there is an expectation that students will continue with their strongest 5 subjects in S5 as this will provide the greatest opportunity of achievement and progression in learning. However, there is also the opportunity for our S5 learners to experience a new subject/course and they may wish to access a course at Perth College if this is their preferred pathway. There is no ‘right way’- learners must make course decisions based on what they need for the future and the subject areas in which they are interested.
In S6, we expect all learners to undertake 5 courses and this will be supplemented through our Core curriculum which also includes additional opportunities to volunteer in school and within our local community. It is helpful, however not always possible, for your young person to have an indication of what they would like to do when they leave school, therefore Guidance staff/ Carol Simpson, our Careers Coach, can support your child to make the most appropriate course choice for their future plans.
