The National Progression Award in Technical Theatre in Practice at SCQF Level 6 develops learners’ practical design and technical production skills across key backstage disciplines, including lighting, sound, prop making, and set or model construction.
It introduces candidates to the roles, responsibilities, and terminology of professional theatre production while offering opportunities to specialise in an area of interest and apply design skills within a live or simulated production context. The qualification supports progression into further study in technical theatre and builds skills in problem-solving, creativity, independent working, and collaboration.
Assessment is continuous, based on practical performance work, rehearsal evidence, and written evaluation. There is no external exam.
To achieve success in this course, students should have minimum level 5 literacy skills, excellent attendance, effective group work skills and the ability to work independently.
