University applications from start to finish

INTRODUCTION

Selecting the degree course and university that is right for you is a big decision. Getting it right is important not only for your own welfare, but also financially and ultimately for your career.

This is an online course which will teach you the steps necessary to research degree courses and universities and the things you need to consider when making your choices. Remember, you are not making a final decision yet, this comes later on.

LESSONS

This course is made up of four lessons and each allows you to build upon you knowledge of the university application process:

  • Lesson 1: Researching a university/degree course

  • Lesson 2: Applying for a degree course

  • Lesson 3: Writing a UCAS personal statement

  • Lesson 4: How to make a decision

    • Quizzes - at the end of each lesson there will be a quiz to test your learning.

STARTING POINT

Depending upon which year of your course you are in, your starting point may be different.

  • Start at lesson 1 if you are are in year one and you haven't started researching universities and degrees.

  • Start at lesson 2 if you have done your research and made decisions about your choice of university and degree (usually by year two).

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Unifrog: your Unifrog login ID and password that was emailed to you at the beginning of term. If you don't have one then contact Sarah Samuels (Head of Student Engagement): sarah.samuels@petroc.ac.uk, 01271 852472.

  • Headphones: There are videos for you to watch and so if you are with a group of people you will need a pair of headphones. If you are in college these can be borrowed from the Learning Resource or Library areas.

  • Chrome: you will need to be logged into your Petroc Chrome account to access some of the functions of these lessons.

  • Quiz: at the end of each activity you will be asked to test your learning by taking a short quiz, so you may need a pen and paper to take notes.
