FE - Ofsted and Careers
The following are key points taken from Ofsted's FE EIF (2023) that relate to careers and the curriculum and generally refers to 16-19, SEND and Adult learners:
In line with the EIF, inspectors will make judgements on the following areas:
overall effectiveness
and the 4 key judgements:
the quality of education
behaviour and attitudes
personal development
leadership and management
Inspectors will:
seek the views of learners in relation to the careers input on their course.
evaluate careers learning materials and resources.
analyse learner records.
FE LEARNERS
Inspectors will review how well high-quality impartial careers guidance enables learners to make progress and move on to a higher level of qualification, employment, further training or independent living when they are ready to do so.
LEARNERS WITH HIGH NEEDS
Inspectors will judge how successfully learners participate in good-quality and individually tailored learning programmes that lead to paid or voluntary employment where appropriate (including to supported internships, traineeships and apprenticeships) and/or to greater independence in their everyday lives.
Inspectors will judge how successfully learners develop skills to enhance their employment opportunities and independence in their everyday lives in real-life situations, including meaningful work experience, and how well they take an active part in their local communities.
ADULT LEARNING
Judge how effectively staff work with learners, employers and other partners such as Jobcentre Plus, to ensure that teaching, learning and assessment enable learners to develop personal, social and employability skills that prepare them well for their intended job role, career aims and/or personal goals.Â
