Mary Golda Ross

who is she?

Mary G. Ross was a NASA mathematician and engineer, she was one of the first known indigenous engineers. She was a part of many NASA achievements such as helping write NASA’s Planetary Flight Handbook, being part of the Skunk Works team, helped develop plans for the P-38 Lightning fighter plane ( a fighter aircraft that was used during WWII) and played a crucial role in sending Apollo astronauts into space.

Her life

Ross was affiliated in the Cherokee Nation, since she was little she was motivated and talented. She worked hard to get her bachelors degree in mathematics and then recieved her masters degree in rocket science. She was known to be extremely interested in astronomy and took every class there was.

Her accomplishments

Mary G. Ross is important because of her accomplishments. Many being crucial to NASA. Her most significant achievement was her design concepts for interplanetary space travel. As mentioned before she was a part of sending Apollo astronauts into space.

She is on the is on the Silicon Valley Engineering Council’s Hall of Fame, won the Peninsula woman of the year, won achievement awards from AISES, won Award for Woman of Distinction and in 1992 the Santa Clara Valley Section established a scholarship in her name.

Thanks to her we are now able to study the universe.
