[Carey Price]

Indigenous representation in Hockey

There are only eight indigenous hockey players in the NHL (National hockey league) at the moment. Carey Price is one of the most notable. He was born in Anahim Lake, British Columbia, Canada and he is a member of the Ulkatcho First Nations.

He is a professional hockey player and currently plays as a goalie for the Montreal Canadiens of Quebec. He is an exceptional goalie not only playing extremely well for the Canadiens but also winning gold with team Canada during the 2016 Winter Olympics. He takes great pride in his indigeneity and was named as an honorary co-chair at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships that took place in Ottowa, Ontario.

The mother of Carey Price is Lynda Price. She was the chief of the Ulkatcho First Nations and the first woman elected to the Union of B.C.

Throughout his incredible career, Carey Price has embraced his heritage and been an incredible role model for indigenous kids across the globe, showing them that they can do what they really set their mind to.
