Alanis Obomsawin is an American Canadian Abenaki filmmaker, singer who is known for her documentary films. She was born on August 31, 1932. Obomsawin was born in New Hemsphire, United States and grew up in Quebec, Canada. .

She works as a film director and producer for National Film Board of Canada (NFB) which is Canada's public film and digital media producer and distributor. It is an agency of the Government of Canada.

Her very first documentary that she directed was Christmas at Moose Factory. (1971) As of August 2017, she already has directed more than 50 films with NFB.

Alanis Obomsawin's works are to represent the change of the Indigenous people and nations in Canada. The examples of her incredible works are "Incident at Restigouche", "Our People Will Be Healed", Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance" and so on.

She won numeruos awards from American Indian Film Festival, Amiens International Film Festival, International Documentary Association, etc.

Now, at the age of 88 she is working on her 53rd documentary.

Her films shed light on discrimination and injustice, but also on Indigenous strength and resistance.
