Gisèle Rabesahala

Powerful Political Figure and Warrior for Human Rights

Gisèle Rabesahala(1929-2011) was the first Malagasy woman appointed as Minister in 1977.

She was one of the more fortunate Malagasy women because she was able to obtain an education. One of the biggest things she was known for was her activism in the amnesty of Malagasy soldiers that fought for the French Army, but she has also a multitude of political achievements with her. These include the founding of her own party(1958), being a municipal counselor(1956), or even a secretary to the Democratic Movement for Malagasy Renewal at 17.
