Dalee Sambo Dorough

Dr. Dorough holds a Ph.D from the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Law and a Master of Arts in Law & Diplomacy from the Fletcher School at Tufts University. Dr. Dorough has a long and impressive history of involvement with discussion and negotiation of the UNDRIP. She was actively participating in the work from 1985 up to its 2007 adoption at the UN General Assembly. Dr. Dorough also participated in a revision process of ILO convention No. 107 which led to the adoption of convention No. 169 of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention in June of 1989. Currently, Dr. Dorough is an Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Department of Political Science at University of Alaska Anchorage and is the Chair of the Inuit Circumpolar Council.

Over her career, Dr. Dorough has also served as the Chairperson and Expert Member of the UN Permanent Forum of Indigenous Issues, Member of the Board of Trustees of UN Voluntary Fund for Indigenous Populations, co-Chair of the ILA committee on Implementation of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and Member of the Inuit Circumpolar Council Advisory Committee on UN Issues. Dr. Dorough is a strong, confident voice acknowledging and working to solve issues concerning Indigenous communities. She is interested and specializes in Alaska Native self-determination and international human rights law; Dr. Dorough has amalgamated these interests to do important policy development work to better address nuanced issues in communities of Indigenous peoples.
