Artist Statement/Bio
I emphasize movement, patterns, light and shadow in my paintings. My pastels are diverse in subject matter, ranging from florals and figurative work to landscapes and still lifes. I have used my work to explore my interest in environmental issues through my studies of tropical leaves.
I like to communicate a sense of mystery through contrasting surfaces, movement, and a variety of leaf patterns. As I showcase the way sunlight plays on petals and leaves I am aware of the many small compositions lurking within. My florals convey a "landscape within a landscape."
I hold a Masters Degree from New York University and have resided in North Carolina for 45 years. My pastels have won numerous awards in national and international juried exhibitions. I am a member of Greenhill Center for North Carolina Art, The Durham Art Guild, The Pastel Society of North Carolina, The Degas Pastel Society and was awarded the title of Master Pastelist from the Pastel Society of America. I am included in many editions of Who's Who in American Art and my work has been published in The Best of Pastels, Portrait Inspirations and Floral Inspirations by Rockport Publishers and in the 2010 and 2016 issues of Pratique Des Arts in France. My paintings are in numerous private and corporate collections including Glaxo, R.J.R. Tobacco, Steelcase, Sheraton and Hilton Hotels, Lowe's Companies, and Duke University.
