A Soldier's Reason: Little Liberty
This piece was inspired by the local Fourth of July children's parade held in our small town. It was selected as the 2018 national first place winner in the category of pastels in the Daughter's of the American Revolution (DAR) American Heritage Contest.

Artist Statement/Bio
Jane D. Steelman worked toward a degree in art at Appalachian State University. From that time she has worked in pottery, drawing, painting, stained glass and jewelry making. She is certified as an art teacher and provides private lessons in her studio. She also holds degrees in education, administration & supervision and instructional technology from ASU, UNC-CH and NCSU. She has worked in the field of education for over 35 years and is the owner/artist for Steelman Studios.
Steelman Studios provides art in various media. Stained glass panels and windows can be created for new and existing homes. Oil and acrylic original paintings are available as well as signed limited edition prints.
She now focuses on painting in pastels and is the present President of the Pastel Society of North Carolina.
