Artist Statement/Bio
Joy Rademacher was born in Virginia, destined to move around the country many times before settling in Southport, NC. She received her BA in languages from Georgetown College and began taking art classes in Syracuse while raising her family. Pastel quickly became her favorite medium as she spent many years as a member of figure drawing groups wherever she found herself. The beauty of Southport and the surrounding areas have inspired her to paint landscapes and a new series she is calling Southport Beauties. She is an associate member of the Pastel Society of America, and a member of the Coastal Carolina Pastel Painters, the Pastel Society of North Carolina and the Appalachian Pastel Society and can be found regularly participating in Thursday morning Figure Drawing at Franklin Square in Southport, as well as Wednesdays at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington and plein air painting in Southport.
