ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Fresh. Light. Creation. Warmth. Peaceful. Joyful. Contrast. Surprise.
These are words that describe what I want my paintings to convey. There are beautiful places and spaces that go unnoticed and overlooked. Painting opens my eyes to see what might not be noticed as I walk along a path. But when a piece of landscape is captured on paper with soft pastels I elevate the overlooked and unnoticed to a memorable and special place.
BIO
I have always liked to draw, as far back as I can remember. I took art classes in school and privately. When I went to college, after two years of other studies, I changed my major to art. After that third year in college I went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. I worked in production art and during those years painted in watercolors.
My son was working in a gallery and sent me pictures of new work. One painting caught my attention and he told me it was done with soft pastels. I was intrigued and purchased some pastels and paper and have never looked back.
In the past four years I have studied under master pastelists Karen Margulis, Lyn Asselta, Marla Baggetta and Alain Picard. I have also studied with pastelist Laura Pollack.
Inspiration comes from neighborhood walks, hikes, bike rides and kayaking.
