There is no right or wrong way to style a gender nonconforming character as long as you attempt to find a balance between traditionally masculine and traditionally feminine.
Most importantly, let go of the idea that skirts are meant for girls and that ties are meant for boys... those things are of no concern to people who are gender nonconforming. What matters is what looks good and feels good to the character.
The clothing should be fun and comfortable. It should speak to the character's identity and personality.
