Girl Scout Cookies

Alrighty. I hope everyone is ready because are you in for a treat or what (see what I did there? Treat??? Sorry. I'll see myself out).

Let's get down to business. Former cookie peddler here to tell you all about Girl Scout Cookies.

Where did these things come from??

I'm glad you asked! In December 1917, the Mistletoe Troop in Oklahoma sold cookies in their local high school.
In 1922 the Girl Scout magazine suggested using cookie sales as a form of fundraising and published a sugar cookie recipe from the Chicago regional director.
From 1933 to 1935 cookie sales became popular with troops in Pennsylvania and New York until eventually, in 1936, Girl Scouts of the USA licensed commercial bakeries to produce the cookies.

I got trefoil which seems ridiculous to me but what do I know?

Fun fact! During WWII, the Girl Scouts sold calendars in addition to cookies due to shortages of flour, sugar, and butter.

Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, and Thin Mints were added in the 1950s, with Samoas following closely in the 60s.

There are two different bakeries that make the cookies and yes, there is a difference. ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Bakers are the two bakeries that currently make the cookies and Little Brownie Bakers is far superior.

I mean, look at these Thin Mints. The one on the left looks so much better than the one on the right.

Speaking of Thin Mints, they're the most popular Girl Scout cookie! Can you guess how many boxes are sold annually? About 50 million. Yeah. I know. That's a ton of cookies. Better clear out space in the freezer!

Now, a moment of silence of Savannah Smiles. Gone but never forgotten. "Lemon-Ups" don't have a single thing on you. Always in my heart <3.

Savannah Smiles were released to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouts and when I tell you I bought so many boxes (okay, I made my mom buy them for me) I got the participation patch from those sales alone, I'm not joking. I was/am/always will be obsessed.
