About Ojonugwa

Ojonugwa is a student on the Wellcome Trust PhD programme in One Health Models of Disease at the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh. She was sponsored by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in 2021 for the Msc in One Health: Ecosystems, Humans, and Animals, which was jointly delivered by the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

She is passionate about proffering holistic solutions to several global health issues and employs genomic approaches to understanding microbial evolution and antimicrobial resistance. Beyond exploring the biomedical factors affecting health outcomes, Ojonugwa is keen on improving the socioeconomic and wider determinants that affect health outcomes. Consequently, she volunteers with several civil societies and NGOs internationally with a special interest in social justice, health literacy and promotion, gender equity, maternal and child health, and youth empowerment.

Campaigns and Activities

Ojonugwa believes that achieving the UN SDGs is key to restoring balance to the world and currently contributes through advocacy with the ONE Campaign UK, grant writing with Cancer Education UK, training global health leaders with UK model WHO, youth mentorship with the Building Nations Initiative Nigeria, and content creation with Control Cancer Initiative Nigeria. She has previously volunteered with the Nigerian Red Cross, HACEY Health Initiative, and Saving Hands Initiative in Nigeria. She has participated in the 7th Global Fund replenishment and East African Hunger crises.
