Tina Lucas was born in Hasselt (Belgium) and was known for her social commitment. During the Spanish civil war, she welcomed Spanish children into our country to help them flee the horrors of war. Throughout the Second World war she also showed great courage. Together with her husband, she joined the resistance and distributed forbidden political pamphlets and worked for the Comète Network. This network took care of crashed British pilots and helped them get out of the country safely by hiding them in ‘safehouses’ and providing them with fake ID cards. She got caught by the Nazis and was sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp where her husband was executed. But she managed to escape. After the war she made it her mission to inform youngsters of the horrors of war and refused to lose courage. She also contributed to the BBC series Secret Army.
