One of the most active public figures from Pazardzhik who contributed significantly to Bulgarian history and culture. He spoke French, Italians and Russian and translated a significant number of Еuropean literary works A true leader and enlightener by nature, he made his first translation from French of Victor Hugo’s Lucrezia Borgia when he was only 15. Even at his young age he took it on himself to work towards broadening his contemporaries’ minds by improving Bulgarian art and culture following European models. He is considered to be the creator of the Bulgarian sonnet. He was a founder of a company that supported art and contributed to creating libraries for Bulgarian students. In 1876 he became an active member of the local revolutionary committee aiming at liberating Bulgaria from Ottoman domination and participated in the preparation for the April Uprising.
