Ivan Vazov was a Bulgarian writer and poet. Called "the Patriarch of the Bulgarian literature", he was the author of the first Bulgarian novel - "Under the Yoke", depicting the Bulgarian rebellions against the Ottoman empire. He contributes to the development of prose, poetry and drama. Through his works Vazov presents the Bulgarian reality during the Bulgarian National Revival and the Post-Liberation epoch.
