Elisabeth Selbert was one of only 4 women who worked on the basic Law for the Federal Republik of Germany. She had a central role in ensuring that explicit equalitiy between men and women was included as a fundamental right in the Basic Law. For this contribution she was awarded with the Great federal cross of Merit. She died 38 years after including the famous sentence "Männer und Frauen sind gleichberechtigt' (translated to: 'Men and women have equal rights') and was awarded with multiple public honors until her death on June, 9th.
