Nils-Aslak Valkeapaa created new interest in traditional Sami yoik when it was about to die out because of it's stigmatization and suppression. He worked hard to improve the possibilities for Sami literature and music to be published. Valkeapaa used different modes of expression which made his art special when experiencing it in it's totality.
