As a versatile artist, musician, and music & art educator, I continue to celebrate many wonderful and fabulous years at Oregon Episcopal School. I teach US Visual Arts and my other responsibilities include Chapel Organist (K-12), school calligrapher, accompanist, founder and co-director of the OES Boys Choir and US Yearbook Advisor.
Other various positions in my long-time career at OES have included Music Dept. Chair PreK-12 (2005 - 2014), Interim Art Dept. Chair (2003-2004), Cathedral Organist at the St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church (located on the OES campus, 1978-1988), and serving on the Residence Hall faculty (1977-1987).
I am a teacher who is 100% cheerleader, nurturer and "artistic sous(sue)-chef!" for all my students. I love helping them open doors to discover, see and realize their full creative and artistic potential. A few special highlights over the years have included helping students to design and build a life-size, papier-mache Volkswagen beetle for the Great Hall, design and construct a giant three-dimensional 28' octopus sculpture (which hangs in the Drinkward Center to promote ocean wellness), and create two leather-bound books with calligraphy in honor and remembrance of the 1986 Mt Hood OES climbers.
In 2014, I had the honor of assisting the Portland Art Museum Education dept. in creating several public concerts, participating in their very successful Object Stories series, & creating community Outreach experiences for the Portland Art Musuem’s Venice: The Golden Age of Art & Music.
In addition to my work at OES, I am principal harpsichordist and organist for the acclaimed Portland Baroque Orchestra, where I have performed and soloed since 1985 with many of the world's leading specialists in the field of early music, including PBO's Artistic Director Monica Huggett, Paul Goodwin, Marion Verbruggen, Paul O'Dette, Richard Egarr and Ton Koopman. Only one of a handful of basso continuo specialists in the Northwest, I have had many opportunities to perform with the Oregon Symphony, the Portland Opera, the Oregon Bach Festival (including several state-wide summer tours), Chamber Music Northwest, Oregon Repertory Singers, Cappella Romana, the Bloch Music Festival, and in hundreds of special concerts and functions at Trinity Cathedral, the Portland Art Museum, and many universities and colleges in the Northwest. I can be heard on many recordings which are regularly featured on All Classical NW 89.9, OPB 91.5 public radio, OPB's Music Made In Oregon series, and National Public Radio (including two live recordings).
My philosophy:
Life is beautiful and that the world of possibility is endlessly full of hope and creativity. I look forward to helping students achieve their artistic goals with enthusiasm and kindness.
