I am originally from Savannah, Georgia and have made my way progressively west since high school graduation, with a four-year stopover in Evanston, Illinois where I earned my BA and teaching credential from Northwestern University. Upon graduation, I moved to California and taught middle school in Los Angeles for two years.
While working on my Master’s in history at San Francisco State, I was a substitute teacher at Menlo School and that became a full time teaching position for 17 years. At Menlo, I taught a variety of courses including, Modern World History, Ethics, Ethnic Studies, Contemporary American Issues, Sociology of Service and Global Issues.
In 2015, my wife and I decided we were ready for a change and came up to Portland. Lucky for me, OES had a history position open and I taught Modern World History in the middle school. Since then, I have become chair of the department and have moved full time to the upper school. I have a passion for social justice and try to incorporate that passion in my classes and involvement in the life of the school.
