I am very excited and grateful for this opportunity to teach math at the Oregon Episcopal School and also to be a member of our OES community since August 2016.
Prior to joining OES, I taught college-level mathematics for 19 years; 2 years full-time at The Colorado College, 2 years full-time at Pacific university, 1 year full-time at the University of Arizona and 14 years part-time at PCC, Rock Creek.
My teaching approach to mathematics is influenced and informed by the math education work by Dr. Hung-Hsi Wu, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at University of California, Berkeley. My passion for mathematics and math education motivated me to reach out to a larger audience with several of my math videos based on Wu's work, that I post on my website Math Precisely.
I was born in India and became a US citizen in 2010. In India, from 8th to 12th grades, I attended Rishi Valley, a boarding school, founded by the Indian educator and philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurthi. I then received my B.Sc(Hons) and M.Sc degrees in Mathematics at Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan, founded by the Indian poet and Nobel prize winner Rabindranath Tagore.
My non-math interests include theatre, music and cooking. My husband Kevin Johnson is a physical chemist at Pacific University.
