What is a neurodiversity-affirming approach? A neurodiversity-affirming approach is one which accepts and validates a person's differences in thinking, processing, feeling, and perceiving information - in other words, their way of being. It seeks to utilizes these differences as strengths, rather than things to change or fix; and seeks to change the environment as needed, in order to better align with that individual's way of being. The video above and blog post to the left gives further explanation of how to be neurodiversity-affirming.

Two Sides of the Spectrum is a podcast which interviews a variety of professionals who utilize a neurodiversity-affirming approach. Topics include PDA and other profiles of autism, sensory processing, communication, social/emotional curriculums, culturally responsive approaches, and SO MUCH MORE (all while utilizing a brain- and strengths-based approach).
