Evacuation (Fire) Drill Tuesday 9/26:
2nd-grade teachers will meet their classes at their special and evacuate with their class using the specialist evacuation route
All staff with walkies, make sure they are on and with you during the drill
All staff need to bring their emergency bags with them as they exit their spaces
Refer to and follow the evacuation maps in your classrooms/spaces
Make sure to put the updated "response team" with phone numbers in your binders (Katherine put a copy in everyone's mailbox)
If you are still in need of a binder for your emergency bag, please come see me
All specialist teachers, MLL, SPED, Improvement teachers, SEL... practice drills with your groups of students so that in the event of a real emergency or drill during your time-students will know what to do
Practice drills when with your WIN groups, so they also are prepared
Please refer to the NWEA Schedule and DIBELS Schedule as dates have recently changed:
All teachers, run your NWEA class reports for the tests that they are scheduled to take to see who needs to complete testing
K-3 DIBELS testing window: Sept. 20-Oct. 3
We will dismiss all students "walkers" and "car pickup" from the gym like we started this week
Thank you for all your support in helping make this process move smoothly
SLOs on My Learning Plan will be due on October 20th
Ms. Esposito and I will be sharing some data to support you in writing your SLOs in the next few days
We will also be scheduling one on one beginning of-the-year meetings with all certified staff before October 20th
Next Community Meeting is 10/12 - Celebration for Hispanic Heritage month and a tie in to our monthly theme of respect. Please let me know ASAP if you will be signing up, I can offer some support!
Service Learning Projects: Please start thinking about what type of project you would like to embark upon this year. Grades 3 and 5 are already set. Think about it in the way of themes or community partnerships. Are your students into community helpers and advocacy? Wellness and Mental Health? Social Justice? Environmental Science? Literacy? What is going to excite your students?
*Reminder - Service Learning enhances what students are learning in the classroom and is further elevated by our community partnerships. In service learning we take a need/problem/theme and either problem solve around it, advocate for change or celebrate it if that is applicable. Sky is the limit!
Let me know and we can get planning for a great year of Service Learning!

2023-24 OTUS Handbook ELA and Math assessments are required to be completed on OTUS for grades 2-5. The district has provided us with a OTUS Handbook to guide us in assigning assessments, accomodations available and grading process. We will be presenting some of these features at an upcoming Staff Meeting.
Math Vocabulary Cards At a recent training, I was reminded of an excellent resource from Granite School District, which provides us with Math vocabulary cards that includes the vocabulary word, visual and definition. These cards are also available in multiple languages to support our MLL students. This would be great to incorporate into your math units and add to a math word wall to support the language around math.
