Vocabulary development is a key piece as we develop oracy. The key vocabulary we are focusing on must be displayed and presented to the students in context, by using a variety of ways including TPR, visuals, realia.
During one of my conferences at NABE, the presenter spoke about the importance of vocbulary development in Math by integrating language with content. Using visuals and creating TPR movement will allow access for students to make meaning to content vocabulary. I am reattaching a resource from Granite School District, which provides us with Math vocabulary cards that includes the vocabulary word, visual and definition. These cards are also available in multiple languages to support our MLL students. This would be great to incorporate into your math units and add to a math word wall to support the language around math.
**Click Dual Immersion cards to change the language.
Vocabulary Cards by Grade Level
Please see me if you'd like to discuss further and plan on how to incorporate this into your classroom!
