October Drills:
"Secure Drill" on 10/26/23 at 1:55 -------All Staff/Students
Business as usual inside the building.
No one leaves the building.
Students and staff outside, reenter the building. This drill will take place toward the end of 4th grade recess. Recess Monitors will bring 4th-grade students and staff indoors when the drill is called.
Please practice these drills with your students and have them become familiar with the language
2023 District Safety Slides Slides 23 and 36 have videos of these drills for you to share with your students
All specialist teachers, MLL, SPED, Improvement teachers, SEL, WIN groups... practice drills with your groups of students so that in the event of a real emergency or drill during your time-students will know what to do
All certified staff SLOs need to be completed by 10/20

Science of Reading Training
October 23 will be the first Science of Reading training. All teachers who have completed LETRS or are currently participating in LETRS will not participate.
All staff that already completed the LETRS training, or are currently enrolled will meet with Lindsay and Cherie in the Library after dismissal
Just an FYI from the district on the components of a lesson plan:
Here are the lesson plan components that were agreed upon two years ago. The below communication was sent out on October 28, 2021.
We have been receiving feedback from our dedicated teachers about the requirement for specific components in lesson plans. As a result, we’ve compressed the components to the following:
Ct. State Standard;
Standards-based Lesson Objective;
Lesson Development,
Differentiation/Scaffolding;
Assessment
Parent Teacher Conferences
ES Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled from November 8 through November 30. They are not scheduled for Mondays during this period so Faculty Meetings can take place.
The evening conference for all schools will be on November 16 from 6 - 8 pm. Certified staff can leave 15 minutes after students are dismissed on 11/16, then they must return for the evening 6-8.
Attached are parent information and appointment letters. Parents will have the flexibility to schedule either virtual or in-person conferences.

**I am slowly starting to get In touch about Service Learning Projects. Once our State School of Character App is in and after the Forum in early November, my schedule will free up a bit to get rolling with projects.

2023-24 OTUS Handbook ELA and Math assessments are required to be completed on OTUS for grades 2-5. The district has provided us with a OTUS Handbook to guide us in assigning assessments, accomodations available and grading process. We will be presenting some of these features at an upcoming Staff Meeting.

If you need a set of kid-friendly Science and Engineering Practices or Crosscutting Concepts, please let me know. These are crucial to reference during your science instruction.
