Principal Video: Guided Tours of the Building and Remote Learner Conferences

Schedule Update: Friday, Sept. 11

On Friday, Sept. 11, NISD teachers will spend the afternoon on campus preparing for In-Person Learning. Students will engage in learning with their teachers the morning of September 11 (as we have been doing on a daily basis). After lunch, students will have asynchronous independent work for their afternoon classes meaning there will be no scheduled Zooms for students on the afternoon of Friday, September 11. Attendance will be taken each class following our current attendance practices, and students will be expected to access their work for the afternoon on Moodle. During this time, we will be making sure all safety protocols are in place and have been practiced by all staff members.

Friday 9/11 at a Glance

  • 9:30 am Advisory Video Conference via Zoom

  • 10 am 2nd period Video Conference via Zoom

  • 11:30 am 4th period Video Conference via Zoom

  • After Lunch: Students access 6th and 8th period assignments on our online learning platform (Moodle). No video conferences/Zooms.

In-Person Learning Begins Sept. 14. with Updates for Those Staying Remote

If your child is returning as an in-person learner, we look forward to seeing you in-person on Monday, Sept. 14.

If your child is continuing with remote learning, they will continue to work via Zoom and Moodle on Sept. 14. All secondary students will transition from the A/B Day block schedule to an eight-period day following the campus bell schedule at that time. Remote learners will be receiving details about their daily routines next week, including their real-time class appointments (synchronous) and self-paced assignments (asynchronous).

Helpful Hints in Home Access Center

#1: How do I check grades and individual assignments? Log into your Home Access Account (hac.nisdtx.org). Drop down to the student on the top right box. Go to the top navigation bar and click on "Classes". Make sure you're on the tab "Classwork". You'll be able to see what was assigned for every class, when it is due, what specifically it is, how many points it is worth and their score. Now, if you see an M, that means it is "Missing".

#2: How do I check their Attendance? Click the Attendance Tab in the same program. You'll be able to see what has been marked and why. There have been some issues with the attendance software, so if you find an error, kindly email the teacher and they will adjust or refer to our attendance clerk rebekah.chambers@nisdtx.org for assistance.

#3: How do I know what my kids are supposed to be working on? Each class in the online learning platform (Moodle) has a Week at a Glance posted and the calendar feature shows all classes in which your student is enrolled. You can ask your student: can you show me your calendar on Moodle please?

#4: How do I set up Grade Alerts? Go to the Classwork tab in Home Access Center, and at the top, it'll ask you to check a box to receive alerts either in email or text for course average or any grade above or below a certain percentage.

NISD Staff and Parent Safety Pledges

As we transition back to In-Person Learning, we are asking our families to help us comply with the Texas Education Agency’s guidance to school districts: (1) requiring teachers and staff to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms each day, and (2) stating that parents must ensure they do not send a child to school if the child has COVID-19 symptoms.

NISD staff members are self-screening every morning, so we are making a pledge that we will not come to school with any COVID-19 symptoms. We are requesting all of our Northwest ISD families commit to the same pledge. It will take all of us working together to get through the challenges of COVID-19. Do not send your child to school if he/she is sick, is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, or has been exposed to COVID-19.

All families and caregivers received an email from no-reply@nisdtx.org on 8/28 containing a link to the Northwest ISD COVID-19 Pledge form. Please take the time to review the guidelines and fill out the form. Using both of these safety commitments – staff and students – we will maintain the safest environments we can as we get ready for In-Person Learning.

Northwest ISD Will Have Three Elections on November 2020 Ballot

Trustee Election, Bond Referendum, and VATRE (Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election)

At the August 10 school board meeting, the Northwest ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to have three elections on the November 3, 2020 ballot:

  • Board of Trustees Election: The annual school board election, which is usually held in May, was postponed due to the public health crisis. Three Board seats (Places 5, 6, and 7) will be on the ballot.

  • Bond Election: The May 2020 bond election, which was postponed due to the public health crisis, will now be presented to voters in November. The bond proposal is designed to address growth, aging facilities, technology, and student programs.

  • Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE): The Board adopted the 2020-2021 tax rate of $1.4663 which triggered a VATRE (formerly called a TRE or Tax Ratification Election).
