The "adventure" format provides an immersive experience for grades 1-12. It is a progression that we typically design for an entire class, grade or school. We start with skill games and activities on the school grounds and/or a local park. The program culminates with a field trip to an outdoor space, such as a forest or island, for a team orienteering mission. We have worked with groups of up to 250 students.
Examples in Massachusetts:
Girls in Sports Day, Cambridge: More than 200 girls finding checkpoints on a map in Danehy Park
Newton Country Day School, Brookline: Sixty 9th graders completed 2 days of orienteering, culminating with a "Landmarks and Treasures" orienteering activity in the woods
Vassal Lane Upper School, Cambridge: 6th, 7th and 8th grade doing orienteering games (Level Up, Poison Score-O, Traditional Orienteering, Landmarks and Treasures)
Morse Elementary School, Cambridge: 5th grade completed 4 activities during the year - on the school grounds, at a nearby park, in a wooded area and in the deep woods. During the COVID pandemic, the grade also participated in a Virtual-O experience.
Graham & Parks Elementary School, Cambridge: 1st, 2nd grade orienteering classes in PE: Balloon Ride Story, Classroom Map, 3D Bugs, Street Maps, Subway Maps, Harbor Maps, Orienteering Maps, Team Traditional Orienteering
Charles River School, Dover: 6th grade multi-day activity: Indoor introduction to orienting the map, using a bearing; outdoor orienteering intro on campus; team adventure in the forest.
