On this page, we'll describe the equipment you need for using electronic timing equipment to teach orienteering.
School clients should purchase the following to create one complete kit:
From Sportident.us: the school kit, and 13 mounting holders that fit the stations in the school kit [See notes below]
13 traffic cones with holes in the top:
12-inch traffic cones - example from Amazon - these are easier to carry and recommended.
18-inch traffic cones - example from Amazon - these are sturdier but harder to carry
Wooden dowel that will fit into the top of the traffic cones, and screws to attach the mounting holders. Details here.
Computer or tablet with Windows operating system to run java and EasyGec.
From Navigation Games: one NG kit with laminated materials
Assembly and set-up:
Create the cone toppers with the wooden dowels, screws, and mounting holders. Details here.
Attach the velcro strips to the SI cards (30 strips and cards are in the school kit)
Install necessary software on the computer. Instructions are here.
Sportident school kit (approx. cost $2,800 in August 2025, recently increased due to tariffs) - For any questions, contact Ana Sofia @ SportIdent (cell: +1 714-366-6244). She can take a credit card payment or provide you a quote for the order, so that you can raise a purchase order. Once you have provided the purchase order information, she will ship you the kit along with an invoice for payment. If she does not have kits in stock, the whole process could take 4 - 6 weeks.
