Community Consultations: School of Nursing and Midwifery
Want a deep, meaningful approach to Indigenization that works on ensuring faculty readiness to implement, hiring practices that pursue diversity, support for indigenous students, and opportunities for non-Indigenous students to acquire knowledge
Ensure there is proper infrastructure to support internationalization
Provide adequate support for High Impact Teaching Practices. In the context of Nursing and midwifery, this includes properly resourcing small clinical classes, and proper simulation
Personalized learning, where students interact with professors (not TAs) has been a key ingredient for MRU’s success and reputation – that must not be lost. We cannot lose what one faculty member described as “our intangible sense of community.”
Want to see a robust discussion on what constitutes a small class size, recognizing that this will mean different things for different areas. This should also be tied to successful retention
Wants a dedicated test centre that is properly equipped so testing can occur through different means (on computer, through use of multimedia). This corresponds to UID and what is being sought by Accessibility Services
Clinical activities should be properly recorded in Workload. It is not adequately tied to SICH, either in Nursing or Midwifery, thus adding to workload and threatening burnout. It is important, and often required, by licensing agencies, that professors in these areas undertake clinical work to stay current.
Need greater flexibility on joint appointments (from professional bodies) and adjunct professorships to enhance ranks
