BOYS GOLF

It’s officially golf season for our Moorpark High School boys golf team! In an exclusive interview with standout player Jonah Muniz, we uncover inner workings of the sport and shine the spotlight on the individuality and motivation behind it. Coached by Mr. Chapman, the hard-working team practices Monday-Thursday for around two to three hours each day. They also compete in matches two times a week as well as different tournaments throughout the year. Jonah was interviewed with the intention of exploring both the team and individual aspects of golf.
When asked what the team’s dynamic is like and how teammates support each other, Jonah replied by saying “We all have fun while playing and never take it overly serious. Our team is just very supportive and kind in their words and behaviors.”
When exploring the individual component of golf and his personal experience with the sport Jonah said that, “My motivation to show up to golf is trying to get a better score than the day before and I like playing with Tony Grey [his teammate].”
Jonah was also asked how he prepares for a match or tournament and he gave a humorous answer by telling us that he likes to watch LeBron highlights to get his mind right as well as trying to occupy himself on tournament day by playing Fortnite. Finally when asked, “How important is mental toughness in golf, and how do you stay focused?” Jonah said, “Whenever you hit a bad shot you have to forget about it and focus on the next one. I stay focused usually by listening to music during my shots and taking breaths.”
As the season progresses, it’s clear that both the team’s camaraderie and Jonah’s individual drive are key to their success, proving that in golf, just like in life, mindset and support make all the difference.
