One School One Book

Be on the lookout for our One School, One Book packets and books coming home today! We look forward to reading this story together as a Reagan community!

Each week, you will read chapters of the book and answer questions as a family. Throughout the month, we will ask special trivia questions during the school day and talk about the book.

Please feel free to reach out to Ann Burmeister (acburmeister@mpsomaha.org) if you have any questions or concerns.

MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment - 5th Grade Famililes

Dear Parents/Guardians of Fifth Grade Students,

In preparation for sixth grade registration, the MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment will be administered to most fifth grade students. This test will help determine the appropriate sixth grade math placement for your child. The MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment is scheduled for administration in your child’s elementary school building on January 9, 2024.

The MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment has proven to be an excellent predictor of abstract mathematical ability. It provides us with information that will increase the likelihood of an appropriate mathematics placement at the middle school level. The test does not measure past mathematical performance, but rather predicts a student’s readiness for independent learning and more abstract mathematics concepts.

In addition to the MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment results, data from the 4th-grade NSCAS-Math assessment administered by the Nebraska Department of Education and data from theWinter MAP assessment will be considered when determining appropriate 6th grade math placement.  MAP is a nationally normed test, aligned with the current Nebraska State Mathematics Standards, that provides reliable information about what your child understands and is able to do with mathematics.

If you do not wish for your child to take the MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment, please contact your elementary principal by December 15, 2023.

Thank you,

Tony Weers, Ed.D.

Once you have placed your order, please send a check to school with your student for your pre-order with "Winter Craft Night order" in the memo line.

In addition, we will be offering additional crafts on site for $2-3 each on the night of the event. These crafts will be offered until we run out, but we plan to have at least 50 items on hand for purchase (cash or check only) and will be limited to 3 per family.

❄️ Wintery Conditions Are Almost Here - Reagan Recess Guidelines ❄️

Grade-level teachers and the office staff will determine whether students will go out for recess based on precipitation, wind chill, and temperature.  We will plan for outside recess if the temperature or wind chill (“feels like”)  is above 0 using weather.com at the time of the recess. This might mean that a grade level that has a recess at 10 AM may stay inside due to wind chill, and then it might warm up in the afternoon to allow for other grade levels to go outside. We will always go outside unless it is actively snowing and the area cannot be cleared in time for a safe recess.

Please dress students appropriately for the weather each day so they can fully participate. Classroom teachers have communicated with families what students in your child's grade level will be permitted to bring for outside winter play. There are many factors that go into this decision, such as length of recess, students' level of independence getting dressed/undressed, schedule for what is happening before/after recess, etc. Please make sure to take note of your child's grade level decision through their weekly communication/newsletter. Thank you for your partnership and cooperation in advance.
