#Be Kind

March 16, 2023

Cottonwood Families,

Assessments

Soon we will be starting spring testing.  NSCAS Growth assesses students in grade 3 - 8 in English Language Arts and Mathematics. The Nebraska Department of Education also tests Science in grades 5 and 8.

Teachers in grades 3-5 will be communicating when their state assessments will be taken.

Class Assignments for 2023-2024

It's that time of the year where we begin planning for next year.  Soon we will be developing class lists for next year.  The development of class lists is a very important task that involves many people and a great deal of thought.  As we create our class lists, we consider the following criteria:

Although we would like to grant all requests, it would be impossible to do so and could possibly jeopardize the integrity of the process. If there are truly unusual circumstances that you feel must be addressed regarding your child’s placement for next year, please follow these guidelines:

1. Send a dated and signed written request by March  31, 2023. This can be in the form  of a letter or email.  Requests made after this point may not be considered.

2. Describe your child’s learning style and the type, not the name, of the teacher that would benefit your child.

There must be an educational rationale for your request. “My daughter had Mrs. Smith and really liked her,” is not an educationally sound reason. Please keep in mind that teacher assignments can change in the coming months or even over the summer. Rest assured that we will be very deliberate about formulating the class lists for next year so that your child has a positive, productive experience. Class assignments for the 2023-2024 school year will be shared close to the beginning of the school year as changes may occur close to the first weeks of school.
