Describe Yourself and Learn to Use Labels in SeeSaw

This activity works great at the beginning of the school year as you’re learning about your students. Students will learn how to add labels to a picture in SeeSaw.

Knowing how to add words to a photo is one of the most useful Seesaw skills for students.
Students can visually represent new vocabulary, document an experiment, or describe a math concept.

Activity 1: Describe YourselfAdd describing words to your picture to tell about yourself. 1. Tap the :add: add button. 2. Take a :photo: photo. 3. Tap the :label: label tool to add labels of adjectives about yourself. 4. Tap the :check: check to add to your journal.

Navajo Life: Use Labels in SeeSaw

Students use the Text/Label tool in SeeSaw to show what they know about Navajo life.

Navajo LifeYou will add labels to the photo to demonstrate what you know about early Navajo life. 1. Click the :add: below. 2.Use the label tool :label: to identify what is used to make the hogan and why the Navajo used that material. 3. Add another label to describe which way the door faces and why. 4. Add a label to identify and describe why there is a pipe on top of the hogan. 5. Add a label to describe what the woman in front of the hogan has made. 6. Add a label next to the woman that is something she might have said. Then use the drawing tool :drawing: to draw a speech bubble around the label, using a thin line. 7. Click the :check: to post.

All 3rd-5th graders can access NewsELA via Clever. Use Newsela to practice nonfiction reading skills while learning about social studies curriculum. This is a social studies example activity you can use with other articles/genres. Students with low reading fluency can use Read&Write extension to have the article read out loud to them.
