TOOP enables students, also known as TOOPers, to develop and showcase their leadership qualities, spirit of youth activism and an appreciation for cultural diversity. TOOP student leaders plan and organize their trips based on the needs of the overseas beneficiaries and undergo training adopting the Service Learning model.
TOOP 2023
The 2023 Temasek Overseas Outreach Programme (TOOP) student leaders hosted a group of migrant workers for a day filled with fun and camaraderie! The day started energetically, with both the migrant workers and TOOPers engaging in friendly sports and games of badminton, Nerf Gun Battle, Shapteh, and Cup Ping Pong. Creativity flourished as everyone tried their hand at cultural crafts like Batik Painting and Rangoli.
Our visitors were also treated to amazing performances by our talented Guitar Club and Indian Cultural Society members. Music transcended all barriers as their enchanting voices and catchy beats united hearts from diverse backgrounds.
Amidst laughter and delicious Biryani, Nasi Lemak, and Nasi Minyak, the migrant workers and TOOPers formed strong bonds over a hearty lunch. A tour of the TJC Campus and delightful moments at the Photobooth added to the trove of joyous memories. The day concluded with a heartfelt video compilation, expressing gratitude and best wishes from TJCians to the migrant workers for their contributions to our society. It was truly a day of sharing, learning, and creating cherished memories.
TOOP 2022
Over the years, the college has worked with partners in Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and China. In 2022, despite not being able to travel overseas, TOOP continued to reach out to overseas communities based in Singapore. Through partnering with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), our TOOPers of 2022 engaged the migrant workers community in Singapore to bring them a sense of joy and to show our gratitude for their contributions. Our TOOPers planned various fun yet meaningful activities such as a carnival at our College and an outing to Gardens by the Bay to engage the migrant workers from a variety of countries like India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand amongst others. As part of the service-learning journey, the TOOPers learnt to organise fund-raising events to raise funds towards financing the activities.
