General Paper (GP) is not only the knowledge of current affairs but understanding our place in the world. Our GP students will better understand the world by fostering a critical awareness of various political, economic and social issues. Students will broaden their global outlook while remaining mindful of shared historical and social experiences both within Singapore and the region. GP also seeks to develop maturity of thought, critical thinking skills, evaluation of arguments and opinions, and the proficient use of language.
Students will need to read widely to keep up with both local and global current affairs. They are required to engage in group and class discussions, and present cogent arguments through oral presentations and written work. To cultivate a strong interest in current affairs among their peers, GP classes take charge of the GP noticeboard to put up information, pose questions and invite responses from the student population.
To supplement our students’ GP experience, students have the opportunity to participate in enrichment programmes like the Pre-University Seminar, YMCA Plain Speaking English Awards competition, The Queen's Commonwealth Essay competition and the GP External Agencies Outreach Programme.
H1 General Paper (GP) is a compulsory subject that all JC students would need to offer.
