By working closely with our tutors and with strong support structures and systems in the College, we want to bring you farther than you have ever gone. We want you to succeed like many before you, and take flight as you pursue your dreams and aspirations. Here, we would like to share some of these programmes we have in place for you:
Our outstanding students can apply into the Talent Development Programme which prepares them for their post-JC aspirations by helping them clarify their personal brand and guide them towards building a well-rounded portfolio. The JC1 Oral Communication Skills Workshop
The Scholarship Preparation Workshop
The College offers a comprehensive Education and Career Guidance (ECG) curriculum that includes ECG ACE lessons, career and scholarship fairs and engagements, job shadowing programme, internship opportunities and scholarship talks. Students are well supported and guided by a dedicated team of ECG tutors, ECG Counsellor and alumni mentors.
Held annually, our JC students attend a CSHE Fair that provides them with an incredible opportunity to explore their potential university and career paths. In 2023, all participating students attended 3 Career Talks, where they could choose from 14 speakers, most of whom were esteemed alumni. It was also the first time that students also had an opportunity to engage with TJ alumni who are currently undergraduates in various universities. Through these interactions, students gleaned first-hand knowledge about university life. There were also over 30 exhibition booths by university and scholarship agencies as well as 10 scholarship talks to choose from. All students were also issued a CSHE passport to guide and facilitate their learning on that day. They also had a great time completing the tasks in the passport and redeeming free acai and Popular vouchers!
Besides the activities held on that day, there were also Zoom sharing sessions organised for students to find out more about studying and/or working overseas in the US and UK. These sessions aim to provide multiple perspectives of the various career and scholarship options available to them, encouraging them to take positive steps to achieve their aspirations.
Seniors’ Feedback about the Career talks
“Ms. Kimberly Jow was passionate about her job and was sincere about her insights and inputs and I felt like she was quite well-versed in talking about having a job in the journalism industry and I would like to hear more from her/others within the same industry”
“Speaker 1 from Talk 1 🤩🤩 his stories were really moving and felt visceral, which touched me ah. He also provided a telegram channel for volunteering opportunities”
“I found Mr Muhammad Arief Aditya’s talk to be particularly meaningful and engaging as he made his work out to be very inspiring and made me spark an interest in social sciences due to its nature of work :’)”
Feedback about Human Library sessions with seniors studying in Universities
“It gives a perspective of the student culture and lifestyle that one has to adopt in the university. The way of life, how things may differ and all this questions were answered and really helped me understand more about the university lifestyle and system”
“Allyson gave me a lot and a lot of insight into the common app and application process in general. She’s a wonderful person and I find her very impressive”
“it gives us the space to inquire more about similar age peoples opinions and gain insight on their lives”
“it was super informative and the people were very interesting and friendly, it was easy to ask questions too because they were (somewhat) around our age”
"The Personal Statement Workshop was very useful in helping me realize how I should promote my strengths and even turn my weaknesses into potential strengths. I learnt how to write about my passion and how I needed to have examples ready to say, that help bring out the values that will give me a higher chance of entering. I should, most importantly, do what I need to, with a passion.”
Check out the Google slides for more details on the CSHE curriculum and student experiences.
Prior to the CSHE talks, I already had some idea of my career interests. Attending the talks allowed me to easily connect the dots between courses available and pathways to my ideal destination. Also, the sharing by university student representatives shed some light on the differing university cultures and which appealed more to me.

"The career fairs and scholarship talks have helped me ascertain not only what I want to do in the future, but how to achieve these goals. By engaging with industry professionals and experienced tutors alike, I can now make more informed decisions and pursue my aspirations with confidence! "

To encourage talent in Mathematics and Science, the college has launched the Temasek STEM Academy to groom future leaders in STEM with a focus on scientific inquiry alongside practitioners in the lab.
The Academy aims to provide an interdisciplinary and applied approach for outstanding students to further ignite their passion in these fields.
The Temasek Internship Programme is an exciting and specially designed attachment programme that enables promising JC1 students to be mentored closely and nurtured personally by leading practitioners in their respective fields (many of whom are successful ex-TJCians!).

In December 2022, Kirana Ayu Prahasanti from CG01/22 served as an intern with Acekidz Creative Educare in Yishun. Kirana and 3 of her peers were teaching assistants, helping the Pre-school teachers prepare and facilitate craft lessons for students.
Kirana: “This internship allowed me to broaden my horizons and realise the importance of education in wider society – how different variables like socioeconomic status and treatment by teachers could affect children down the road. I also reflected greatly upon my own values and how I treat young children. This internship required me to exercise my emotional intelligence as I know that my words and actions can impact these easily impressionable children.”
Another student who has enjoyed his experience and benefited from the TIP is Josher Choy of CG08/22, who served as an intern with the Department of Ophthalmology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Josher assisted several ophthalmologists (some of whom are successful ex-TJCians) by helping them with clinical work and observing them in action.
Here’s what Josher has to say: “I gained so much insight! The entire experience was unique, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I became more aware of the work doctors do and what they need (social and technical abilities) to be a good one. I picked up some social skills that I witnessed in doctors when they handled difficult or worried patients – they gave reassurances and were clear and transparent in explaining the procedures. Moreover, they were most definitely patient!”

Also, check out the Google Slides to read what the TIP students have to say about their experience in various organisations.
"TIP allowed me to learn more about the day-to-day workings in a clinic as well as a doctor’s life, which was very insightful as I was able to see the work they were doing behind the scenes, such as reviewing patients’ history and results from additional medical tests. This rare opportunity to shadow doctors through TIP made me much more interested in healthcare and I am really grateful to have had this opportunity."

"The most crucial skill that I learnt from TIP was communication across age groups and how to be interactive and entertaining to different groups of people. It has also enabled me to apply my school-based sciences into actual practice which made me appreciate the subjects that I learn, even more. Overall, the TIP has provided me with the crucial skills for work life in any kind of sector, which I am really grateful for."
