Basketball is one of the Sports Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) offered in Temasek Junior College. With the aim of developing students’ passion for the sport, as well as to nurture students’ character, this CCA has been constantly outdoing itself, gaining more recognition over the years.
While TJC Basketball has not added to its growing list of accomplishments over the past few years due to pandemic-led restrictions and cancellations up till 2022, extensive training opportunities and programmes were put in place to maximise students’ learning. The latest commendable achievements the team achieved include the 2019 Lions Cup Tournament (Girls) Bronze Medal, as well as 2nd Runners-up at the T-net Club Tertiary Cup (Boys) in both 2018 and 2019. In 2022, the Boys’ Team secured a National Top-8 finish at the A-Division National School Games.
In basketball, students train AND play hard. There are teambonding activities minimally twice a year, where the IP and JC students come together to get to know each other, as well as to grow together, as one basketball family. Students from different divisions play alongside each other, with tutors and coaches occasionally taking part in these games as well. Overseas immersion and exchange programmes are also offered to the students, with the IP students going to Malaysia in 2018, and JC students going to Taiwan in 2019 (pre-pandemic). Students undergo training sessions by other coaches overseas, as well as play friendly matches to learn from their counterparts, all while having fun, making those trips memorable for all.
