If a student receives a “1” for a nine weeks progress report or report card, teachers should request a meeting with parents to develop a plan (student intervention plan) to improve the student’s grade for the next grading period. A “1” on a report card should not be a surprise to a parent. Students who are at risk of retention should be receiving a "1" in at least one subject area.
Special Education Students: Special Education teachers should be kept up-to-date on the progress of SPED students for their assigned grade level. Please notify the special education team leader as soon as any SPED student becomes at risk of failing. Notification may be made at any point during the grading period -- please don’t wait until the last minute to notify your case manager.
Students in other special programs: Follow the above directions for communication with special programs teachers for students in special programs such as: Dyslexia, 504, Alpha, etc.
Specials Grades: P.E. grades will be given each grading period. Art and Music grades are only given during the 2nd and 4th 9 weeks and will follow the same procedure as P.E. grades. Specials grades will no longer be a "Rubric Score", but instead provide criteria for communicating mastery or still developing.
Teachers must keep accurate and up-to-date standards based records of students’ progress through the use of a monitoring system. This includes students work, quick checks, common formative assessments, guided reading/guided math anecdotal records, etc.
Each teacher may choose a system of their preference, however the system must be accessible daily from school.
Teachers are given a rotation for either morning or afternoon duty to allow for tutoring services between 7:40-8:10, or 3:20-3:50. Classroom teachers are expected to tutor twice a week. Tutorial time should be available to students as needed. Tutorials may be held before or after school (with parent permission).
When tutoring a child before or after school, remember to inform the parents at least one day ahead -- parents are responsible for transportation.
Please complete the tutoring Google form with the name/time/days of week the student will be provided tutoring. The tutoring Google form will be shared out through email. It is an expectation that tutoring begins by the end of September.
Please give parents adequate notice if a tutoring session will be cancelled and ensure that the student has transportation.
Teachers must stay with students until they are picked up. Do not send them to the front of the school unattended to be picked up.
