Please make sure you check the calendar with the campus secretary and administrator prior to scheduling a field trip date. This will proactively help us from overbooking field trips with previous scheduled events. Field trips in the first semester must be submitted by September 1st.
Instructional field trips may be used to supplement classroom teaching.
When teachers need to take students away from school for activities that are an integral part of the McKinney curriculum, they are required to request approval for the trip through the principal. It is important that you fill out all of the necessary paperwork to ensure that buses, food services, and legal issues are all handled appropriately. This includes the field trip request form, permission slips, bus request form, checklists, etc. See the office secretary for more details. The field trip checklist link is HERE.
All field trip money, must be turned into the office daily. Please include the money and a class roster in the envelope provided by the campus secretary. Teachers should highlight the name/s of the students who paid and add the date of payment and method (cash/check) on the roster. No money can be stored in your classroom or kept with a substitute at any time.
Please notify the cafeteria two weeks ahead of time if the field trip will impact lunch.
Please notify the nurse of the field trip as soon as it is scheduled. Send the nurse a reminder email two weeks before the field trip. Nurse needs to contact parents two weeks before the field trip so the parent can make arrangements to attend if needed. If the parent can not attend, we are required to provide trained personnel for certain medical conditions. The nurse will need to have time to provide trained personnel (examples include diabetes, g-tube feed, catheterizations, etc).
Nurse will also need 2 weeks notice to collect medications needed for your grade-level's field trip.
Please make sure you give SPED/STC/FAC teachers a week's notice about schedule changes and field trips in order to ensure IEP's are followed.
Parent permission slips will be required for all field trips. Students without parent permission slips may not attend field trips or special events. Please contact parents in a timely manner to address concerns about field trips.
Chaperones are required for field trips during the school day and after-hours school functions.
All chaperones and volunteers must have a criminal background check on file in the MISD system. This process usually takes about 7 days so be proactive, and allow your volunteers plenty of time to submit their information. All criminal background checks should be completed electronically on the McKinney ISD volunteer/background check located on our McKinney ISD website.
Parents are always welcome as chaperones for any event. A good rule of thumb is 1 chaperone per 10 students. Chaperones are discouraged from bringing younger siblings, but if necessary, should not have supervision of other students in the class other than their own child. Chaperones who bring younger siblings are not allowed to ride the bus.
All parents and visitors must report to the office to receive a visitor’s badge.
Volunteers working directly with students must have a criminal background check filled out at least seven days in advance of assisting students.
In order to keep to a structured start of our day, it is suggested that teachers communicate for volunteers to come after morning announcements. (Watch Dog dads will report to morning announcements and then begin their schedule).
