Your child can opt to bring their own healthy packed lunch or they can purchase a dinner from our school canteen. Meals at Maesgwyn at catered for by the local authority and are a set menu of main meal, drink and dessert. The cost of dinner is set at:
Pupil dinner - £2.75 per day (£13.75 per week)
Staff dinner - £2.95 per day
School dinners can be paid via a number of different formats:
Direct cash payment at school reception
Payment by cheque (payable to RCTCBC). Please pay at school reception.
Payment via the RCT online 'pay-it' system which can be accessed here.
In accordance with the Council’s policy, we cannot provide school meals if there are arrears in excess of £24. In this circumstance a packed lunch should be provided by the parents/carers.
Free School meals
Families in receipt of on of the following benefits may also be entitled for Free School Meals :
Child Tax Credit – where total annual income is also less than £16,190
Income Support (with responsibility for children)
Income Based Job Seekers' Allowance (with responsibility for children)
Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Guarantee element of state Pension Credit
Pupils who receive Income Support or income-based Job Seekers' Allowance in their own right are also eligible to receive free school meals
Employment Support Allowance (Income Related) (ESA(IR)).
Universal Credit
Working Tax Credit ‘run-on’ the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

Health and Safety – Your safety and well-being during your visit are important to us. As a visitor you have a legal duty to care for the Health and Safety of yourselves and others. It is against the law to smoke on school premises.
Classrooms – Do not enter classrooms unless escorted by a member of staff or by prior arrangement.
Accidents – Any illness, injury or accident must be reported to the school office.
Maesgwyn Special School - Fire Evacuation Procedure
Section 1 – What to do if you hear the Fire Alarm ring
· Stop work
· SWITCH OFF GAS = Science/Food Technology/Kitchen
· ESCORT pupils out of the building via the quickest, safest exit
· Ensure that pupils leave the building quickly, quietly and in an orderly manner. NO TALKING – NO RUNNING. DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE to return to the building
· Proceed to the Assembly Point via the shortest and safest route from your room
For all PUPILS, STAFF and VISITORS in the main building – the designated ASSEMBLY POINT is on the school yard to rear of the main building.
Section 2 – PUPILS
· Pupils to be escorted to the assembly points
· Pupils to line up in their Registration Classes with their Class Teacher and Support
· Admin Staff will distribute Registers
· Class Teachers will confirm attendance of students to Admin Staff – the names of any pupils not accounted for will be reported to the Deputy Headteacher immediately
