Wellbeing at Maesgwyn has grown considerably over the last 10 years, with ALL staff being trained in the use of trauma informed approaches to support pupil wellbeing, and we are officially a Trauma and Mental Health Informed School, (TISUK). Promoting positive wellbeing, on a whole school level, is the foundation of everything we do at Maesgwyn. We strongly believe that, in order for pupils to access the curriculum they must first feel safe, secure and have their emotional needs addressed and supported, in an empathic and non-judgmental environment.
At Maesgwyn we know that life isn't always perfect. Things can happen in a child or young person's life that throw them off kilter; resulting in them struggling to regulate.
At Maesgwyn we support our pupils using trauma informed approaches that aim to regulate through teaching them to identify their feelings and allowing them time to explore self-regulation strategies. We recognise behaviour is a communication of emotion; therefore we have updated our Behaviour Policy to a Relationship Policy that focuses on four areas; PROTECT all pupils, allowing them the opportunities to REGULATE their emotions while providing them with time to REFLECT on their emotions and actions. All this is based on a foundation of developing positive RELATIONSHIPS with all people in the school community.
