Medication Administration Training Report: This report provides a list of current staff at your school who are trained in medication administration. All Nurses and NA's have rights to generate this report.
What courses do staff need to take to be certified to administer medication at school?
MMSD is using the knowledge training provided by DPI. The specific courses can be accessed at https://dpi.wi.gov/sspw/pupil-services/school-nurse/training/medication. Minimally epinephrine and rescue inhaler are required. Additional training for grade level specific teams to meet needs of individual students with other emergency medications.
What is skills training?
When staff have completed the online certification, they need to demonstrate competency in administering the particular route of medication. This skills training is done with the school nurse. Skills competency checklists have been developed by DPI.
How do I document staff training?
The nurse or nurse assistant enters the training information into Enterprise ERP (Live). Instructions can be found above on this same page.
What do I do with certificates after entering them into Enterprise ERP (Live)?
Knowledge and Skills certificates should be kept until the nurse/NA prints the Enterprise ERP: Staff Med Admin Trained report and verifies info is entered correctly, then return original certificate to staff member. It is recommended that trained staff keep personal copies of certificates and knowledge confirmation emails.
How often do staff need to be trained?
The Wisconsin administrative rule states that knowledge training is required every 4 years (and more frequently if needed) and skills training must be repeated annually (and more often if needed).
