We have a duty to ensure the health and safety of students who are enrolled at MMSD to the extent that we are realistically able to do so.
For any student who participates in an off-site school or program and who has an individual healthcare plan (IHP) and/or an emergency care plan (EHP), an MMSD nurse coordinates with the Program Contact to make sure that they are aware of the student's circumstances. If a non-MMSD program/school would like a copy of the student's IHP or EHP, we would need to obtain a release from the parent or adult student to provide to the respective non-MMSD program/school.
If a student requires medical care as part of their regular day that can only be performed by a healthcare professional, then we would need to verify that the off-site program has the capacity to provide that care. Again, I think that would be part of the coordination between MMSD nursing and the off-site program.
MMSD provides medical homebound instruction to scholars unable to attend school due to very significant mobility and / or health conditions. As a District, we have the responsibility to consider the individual circumstances surrounding each request for homebound instruction. Services should be made available to students on an equitable basis and the outlined process allows us to do so.
