Nurses should be working with Physical Therapists in their building to complete student evacuation plans. Physical Therapists are mostly responsible for the special education plans and nurses are mostly responsible for the 504 plans and short term plans (broken legs, etc). Annually, these plans will be updated and staff will need to be trained. Middle and high school staff will need to make sure that as schedules change teachers are updated on this information.
The 504/IEP accommodation should read: Nurse/PT will develop Emergency Evacuation plan which will be updated annually and staff will be trained on use of the plan annually.
A copy of the evacuation plan should go with the 504/IEP to the respective teacher(s)/SEA to be kept in a secure place and yet accessible to sub.
A copy of the 504/IEP and Evacuation Plan should be placed in the Red Binder in the health office.
A copy of the 504/IEP and Evacuation Plan should go to the principal(s).
