"School's First Day of School"

w/c 9/7/20

First the story...

For this project, we will be creating a drawing based on the book "School's First Day of School". We will focus on our use of line and shape during the drawing and then add color to complete the project.

There are 2 videos for this lesson. The first is a read-aloud of the story where you can see the illustrations in the book as well as hear the story. The second video, below, is the art lesson.

And now for our lesson:

You will need:

white paper (a heavier weight or watercolor paper is better IF using paint)

pencil and eraser

Sharpie

Color - any of these, or a combination, are fine; crayons, pastels, paint with a paint brush

Watch along with the video and remember to pause if you need a little more time for any of the steps of our drawing.

As an extension to this project, you can choose a different background - perhaps include people, a playground, flowers, part of a school bus... the choice is yours.

So - go gather your supplies and let's begin!

Use this link to try our "Mask Portrait" lesson. Younger students might need a little help, particularly with the folding, but I think they will enjoy the project.
